I bought an 83' 4x4 Ranger with the 2.3 in it, the drivetrain is solid but the engine needs work. I wouldn't run right when I bought it but that was okay. So far I got it started and running now I just need to do minor things to the engine and dress it up. Then it will be on to the suspension and off road mods.
This isn't my daily driver I bought it mainly to go off road to the beach, camping and take to off road meets and stuff like that.
CODE NAME: (BEACH RAT)
So far this is what I have done,
removed the carb, intake manifold and all emissions devices. I found out someone had swapped a d-port head onto my engine. That's a whole different can of worms I need to mess with later. I put on an OMC 2.3 Intake Mainfold used the Rochester to Holley adapter and put a Holley 2300 (350 CFM) carb on there and replaced the spark plugs. It fired up first try after the fuel bowl filled with gas.
I hooked my PCV valve to the vent in the intake manifold and hooked my brake booster and vacuum advance to the ports on my carb. That's all the vacuum I need.

Making the gasket for the OMC Intake gasket.
I replaced the original water fitting with a 90 degree elbow to a 3/8 barb fitting so that I can run my water hose back to the heater core line.
These are two fittings for the EGR and something else that came out of the exhaust manifold. I plugged with with brass plugs.
This is my Holley 2300 and a pic of the fuel line.
I still need to fab up a bracket for the throttle cable and get a new fuel line, the one that is on there is just to see if it would run. And it did!
