8.8 31 spline axle destroyed need guidince and info

my 8.8 is junk its blown 3 times. and i cant figure it out. ok verdict is the mechanic who last rebuilt my rear end and took the tubes off and all never measured to make sure it was put on straight and my axle has been wrapping and is off center. my dad and me are now looking for a disc brake 8.8 or ford 9 inch. it blew this diff out cuz the measurments were not right and when it is put in reverse the whole axle moves up and when put in drive it shifts and moves down. i just went out and measured middle of front tire hub to rear tire hub and the right side is forward half an inch and the left side is back half an inch......if that makes any sense to anyone. so i guess my main question is if u buy a fullsize 8.8 am i able to pull the tubes off my short 8.8 and put them on a full size cuz all i need is the pumpkin and the disc brakes off the full size i found. can this be done?
 
that sounds like a lot of work/time/money when you could just find an explorer 8.8 that has matching gears for the front.
 
see i was thinking of that but the full size axle is 50 bucks and i didnt know what would be better. and its hell to find a expo axle around here that cheap
 
i see, i figured you had easy or cheap access to a FW.

i dont think it will work however. the ranger 8.8 has thinner axle tubes than an explorer 8.8 or a FW 8.8. on a ranger they are 2 7/8" in diameter IIRC and an EX 8.8 is 3.25"......a FW would be at least that.

So in essence the perches are at different angles now ? That will cause hellacious axle wrap...

Best bet is to find and expo 8.8 with discs, despite how hard it may be or expensive.....you'll be money ahead
 
the guy said it came off a car or something might have been a conversion. so if did a expo rear i would be upgrading cuz the shafts are bigger?

you could certainly find a way to put discs on them, disciplerocks is doing it with his FW 8.8 right now.


yes, the EX 8.8 has 31 spline axle shafts and the ranger 8.8 has 28 spline. therefore, the EX 8.8 is stronger. add to that the fact that they have disc brakes makes it a very desirable axle
 
You dont have a 31 spline axle if it came out of a car and your mechanic CERTAINLY didnt weld the plug welds properly if it twisted like that.
 
i already have 31 spline axles i have the fx4 level II it came with 8.8 4.10 gears torson lok l/s and 31 spline. so if i went to a expo its the same exact as mine now but with disc brakes. now can my torson lok l/s go into the expo 8.8?

'99+ F-150's are disc, dunno about the E-series they usually march to their own drum. The '99 F-150's are well into the metric wheel boltpatterns by then though.

If it is still any good after outliving three axles... sure.
 
Dont **** with all that. Get a whole new axle with a L/S so you dont have to pay to set up the gears again. They're readily available with 4.10s already in them.

find me one :P and this is y i asked on TRS the best ranger forum cuz the tech on here. on the others i would get laughed at for my rear blowing up. thanks guys
