i have an 87 ford ranger 5 speed with a 2.0 engine in it. I know that the rangerstation says the blocks are identical with exceprion to bore and stroke but i need to know for sure if a 79 2.3 out of a pinto will bolt up to my transmission in the ranger. i would really like to get this engine in and eliminate all the emissions crap. any help would be appreciated.

It should bolt up. The only question would be the pilot bearing in the center of the crankshaft. The blocks are all the same save the bore in the 2.0 is smaller.
See the tech sticky at the top of this section.

Not positive about yours, but on older Pintos (like my 74) the oil pan is stamped instead of cast & I believe that it's a front sump pan where the Ranger is a rear sump pan (hope I don't have this backward).

Even if it dont bolt up you should be able to find an old 4 spd for pennies. Alot of people do the local circle track(4 cyl bombers) with pintos and 2.3ls If you can find those guys they prolly have an old tranny sittin round they will sell you for cheap.
