Well I have been building a 99 Ranger for TREC racing....Before our first race that happened on April 1st I had a couple tranny related complaints but I we went racing anyways.

The complaints were very slow reverse, sometimes slow forward engagement, and the damn thing would hold gears FOOOOORREEVVEEERRRR. After the race I started getting a shift flare leaving the stop light...so add that to the complaints too.

Ive been reading and reading and a little more searching and more reading. Ive found that most people are installing a shift kit, either the TSB kit, Superior, or the other one.

Ive decided to install the Superior kit with a new EPC, seperator plate, and solenoid bracket.

Im doing this tonight and was wandering if anyone has any additional recommendations for me...I have front explorer bearing and cv shafts that are gonna be going in tonight too...doing that first. If anyone wants to chime in, do it.

Talk to you guys later, Bryan

Well I got the front half shafts and bearings installed. $84 for both bearings, brand new, mailed to my door. $47 each for the reman shafts. $44 for a shift kit. $151 for a ford EPC, sep plate, and solenoid bracket. Fluid and filter kit.

Pulling the Valve Body down and finding a problem that was anticipated...PRICELESS.

I found 2 sections of gasket broken and or missing a chunk.

Shitty Pic cause of the phone but it gets the point across.

Going back together tommorow.

Please keep us posted on your results. mine has the flare on the 2 to 3 shift. my research tells me I need the same repair. Where did you get you trans parts? Thanks

From what iv'e read the flare is usually caused by the gasket blow out. I used ford dealer in town for the sep plate, solenoid, and bracket. Ebay for the Superior shift kit. Napa for the fluid and filter kit.

I beat on it, then had the co dawg beat on it. It was rainy so it was in 4wd. Felt better...I had higher hopes in various areas but I am satisfied with how it turned out. I still need to install the intermediate servo spring but i'm kinda still scratching my head on how to do it.

Any help would be appriciated...Thank you
