4x4 wont engage

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I have a sneaking suspicion that the issue has something to do with my transfer case. I have an automatic 2011 4.0 V6 Ranger Sport with 4x4. When I fire up the truck and all the lights turn on in the dash, both the 4x4 and 4x4 low lights turn on, and then go off. But when I try to put it in 4hi or 4lo, I hear a clicking in the dash, but nothing happens, and neither light turns on in the dash. They don't blink or anything, so I'm thinking that the 4x4 just isn't engaging at all. I know the 4x4 dash lights work so I don't think its a bad fuse. Given the situation, do yall think its a bad shift motor, or a bad transfer case module?

I would guess bad motor. The module is clicking, so it sounds like it's trying to make the motor move. You could take the motor off and check it. A small battery charger can hot wire the motor and see if it moves. Or just take a resistance reading through the motor and see if you get anything.

I would guess motor problem also. That is the most common. The brushes and commutator get dirty and also the sliding switch contacts that indicate position also get dirty from lack of use. Its easy to disassemble, clean and re-assemble. Might be a procedure in the tech articles. I know there is a system troubleshooting procedure there.
