4x4 switch won't light

hey guess ive been trying to get help from another forum, but maybe a total ranger based forum is best. i asked this question there and got no response:

OK. so i went and followed the tests in this link http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/45...ow-we-fix.html and this is my results. everything checks out except for the tests that will make the dash lights come on. if the ignition is on and i press the white button on top of the 4x4 computer the red light will come on, but the dash lights wont. bad switch maybe? the PO said something bout maybe dirty connections on a resistor under the dash, could that be it?

When you push the white button, that tests the computer. If I remember right, that should NOT make the dash/ switch lights come on.

The Troubleshooting threads that are "stickied" here in this section are much better than the link you gave that doesn't work (it says the page can't be found).

EDIT: That is really weird, those stickies are not there anymore... Last I checked they were there, because I used them to fix mine. And there is nothing about trouble shooting that I can find in the Tech Library.
Can a Mod/ Jim help with the missing thread issue??
