4x4 not working....just one more thing....

06 Ranger FX4 extra cab 4.0L:

This truck has had a list of problems.........rear bumper had to be re-alligned, suicide door had to be re-alligned, tensioner belt went at 20,000, rear suspension leaf had to be re-alligned.......and now the 4x4 will not engage.

Front brakes had to be replaced at 17,000, truck was inpsected at 28,000 and the front brakes were found to be worn all the way down.....two garages found the front breakes to need replacing, Ford of course said the front brakes were fine and did not stand behind their work, saying instead it must be my driving (Hmmmm, I don't haul or pull anything).

Four wheel drive has always engaged inconsistantly since I owned the truck, sometimes engaging, sometimes not. Ford explained it away as the motors occassionally freeze up.......Hmmmmm, weather is warm now and the truck will not engage in 4L or 4H at all.....light does not come on, no sound at all......just nothing.

I have never bought a vehicle with so many issues.....wow, good thing I paid for the extended warranty.

Wow, sorry to hear that.

I have virtually the same truck and have had very good luck with it, now at 47,000 miles.

I need to rotate the tires today, I'll take a look at the brakes.

Yeah.......I was so excited to get this truck......but the ongoing issues, and lack of support from Ford have me losing the faith......

I didn't even add that the truck occassionally locks up if parked for more than 24 hrs or so..........Ford tells me it is a defect with the rear brake that fills with water and expands.....they tell me it is an issue, but not covered by a re-call..........they tell me that an upgraded brake is available, which cost much more of course........

Frustration frustration...........

I might add that I had a toyota 4x4 that I ran into the ground........you couldn't brake it if you tried................makes me wander....Hmmmmm

I know, every make has a few lemons in the bunch.....I'm just sorry I'm the one that got stuck with one.....

what good is it to have a 4wd where the motors occasionally freeze up when its cold there by not allowing you to get into 4wd ....... like being stuck in the snow?

have you tried a different dealership?

That was my exact reply...................

Yes, I am dealing with a different dealership now for the 4x4 issue. I am hoping to get this issue resolved painlessly..................I originally bought a new vehicle so I would not have to deal with these types of issues........it's hard holding two jobs and having to be without transportation to get to them......

Turns out the 4x4 motor was shot........it is being replaced....

Good thing I don't do any hardcore Four Wheeling.....this truck can't stay together on the paved road..............
