so i went to the river by my house to go fishing and i engaged my manual hubs at the gas station down the road. i got in and started to drive off, i had no turning it just jerked the wheel back and forth when i tried turning. so i got out dis engaged the hubs and didn't go fishing :bawling:

The next day i jack the front of the truck up, took the wheels off and messed around with the hubs locking and unlocking. the passenger side works fine, but the driver side does not engage!

Also when i turn sharp after that night when engaging the hubs i get a grind :icon_confused:
Do i need new hubs?
or is my problem something else?

thanks for looking hope you can help me :icon_cheers:

well your wheel bearing could be on its way out. or your hub could either be rusted up and jsut stuck, and now a piece of rust is stuck in your wheel bearing. hard to tell without taking the hub off and inspecting it

Have you taken them out and inspected them? What side is the grinding coming from, have you tried swapping the hubs.

Sounds to me like you were on hard ground and the 4x4 was working as designed! Ya can't turn sharply on a hard surface in 4x4 without all the humping and jumping! Try it again on soft WET ground.

i have taken the hubs off and looked at them! my truck just got an alignment and wheel hubs/bearings were put in about 4 months ago.

its was not in 4 wheel, i just had the hubs locked in 4 wheel. the switch inside was still in 2wd

the only thing i have not done yet is flip the hubs.

I think

I'd put her up on 4 jackstands and start her up.. That'll show you what you've got.

sounds like you have a locked up outer U joint. put the front on jack stands with it in 2wd and the tires on, cank the wheel so the tires are turned near lock. Lock one hub in at a time and turn the tire with the locked in hub, if it jerks around it's probably a screwed U joint but that's how you'll tell...

check my other thread i updated it.
its under strangest 4wd ever!!!
tell me what you think

ok so i jacked the truck up on jack stands and turned the wheel to the left then engaged each hub separately!

The passenger side engaged and spun around thru the differential and up to the transfer case.

the driver side engaged and didn't spin at all, so i put the wheel straight ahead and engaged them again separately, again the passenger side was fine spun and everything, but the driver side spun like it was winding up and when it got to a certin point it turned the front wheels then eventually stopped/ locked up..???

Is it U-Joints??

You should be able to see it binding up. Like was mentioned earlier, look at the U-joint closest to the wheel (10-12 inches behind it approx). When you rotate it and get into the bad spot and it will try and rotate the "kink" (for lack of a better term) instead of rotating somewhat smoothly like a U-joint usually does.
