4bt swap questions

I know the 4bt cummins swap has been talked to death on this forum, but I am new to the game and have no clue what all it entails. I have got my hands on a good run reconditioned 4bt p pump engine out of a bread truck. It has an allison behind it. Anyways, I know that my 4r44e trans has to go, but what trans and transfer case do you slide back in it? I suppose the 4r44e is not going to work, because the rpms of the deisel are low and the electronics are noexistent on it....

i would agree 4bt is the place to go for swap info.

but i would use whatever was most cost effective.


if it has a functioning allison on it, run it.


otherwise whatever adapter situation you can get for the best price would be the way i went...dodge or gm nv4500.3550......any fullsize trans...creeper ford or gm units...m50dr2 orzf5.....aod, c6 or e40d any of the automatic gm units...

Another option if the Allison is decent would be to find a divorced transfer case. Ford highboys had divorced transfer cases to make the driveshaft angles better, and alot of them were np205. That would probably be my place to start, but I don't know how you feel about your Allison.
