Im looking for a connector pinout for the 42 pin harness connector on the 2000 Ranger truck 3.0 liter 5sp. Just the truck side of the harness. I also need a pin out for the harness connector on an 04 4.0 sohc out of a 4x4 sport trac with 5r55e. If anyone has any info it would be much appreciated. I am fixing to try the swap as soon as the connector on the 4.0 is wired for the truck.

PCM connectors?

The 4.0 sohc has the harness on it complete with PCM. I need to identify the wires on the 42 pin connector for the 2000 ranger truck. Im looking for a diagram that will identify the pins on the truck connector. So I know what pins to switch on the 4.0 sohc motor harness if any? The 4.0 motor came out of a 04 sport trac 4x4. If a could obtain a diagram of the 42 pin connector on the motor this would help as well. Im not swapping the dash harness.

Here is a pic of the 42 pin connector. This is for an Aviator I found it at autozone while searching in the wire diagrams for an 04 sport trac. Dont know why this one shows up.

Yes Sasquatch that is the connector Im talking about. Now if I could get a clear defintion of what these wires do. Like the first wire 16 RD/LG. I know that it is coil power. I need a diagram of that 42 pin connector for a 04 sport trac with the 4.0 sohc as well. So I can make sure its wired correctly for the 2000 ranger. I appreciate you guys replying back. Thank you Sasquatch and you to rtg143. Your help is greatly appreciated gonna have to give you guys some rep. Here is a pic of the 4.0 sohc I have it in my buddys shop wired up to the 04 sport trac harness it fires right up. I will switch the pins around when I get enough info to put it in my ranger.

This is the one from a 2004. I posted the PCM earlier because I thought the colors would help in seeing what goes where.

Yea the PCM pinouts do help in seeing what color goes where. If you have the pcm pinouts for the 04 that would be useful info to. Is the connector diagram for the 4.0 in a ranger? I dont guess it matters if it was a sport trac or not since they are like the same thing. There is one thing Im noticing right away it is that the diagram doesnt have any wire on the #1 pin. I believe the 4.0 had a black and white wire on the #1 pin. I will have to double check it the oreintation of the connector good have been wrong since the diagram show a black and white wire on 42 and 41.

The 42 pin is for a Ranger. Here's the PCM connector for the 2004 Ranger.

Thanks for the diagram its gonna help. I wonder if their is any difference in the 4x4 pcm and the 2wd pcm. I know the 4x4 module controls the transfer case shifting but the pcm is in charge of locking up the torque converter in 4 low. I think thats how it works anyway.:icon_confused:

Ok there are a few PCM Pins in question. On the 04 sport trac PCM pin #2 is not used. On the 04 Ranger PCM Pin #2 in the Malfunction indicator lamp(MIL). So what did they do differently?

The 04 Ranger PCM pin #48 is the Tach, Tan and Yellow. The 04 ST PCM Pin #48 is not used. I dont have a tach wire? Im having hell trying to find any info on an actual sport trac PCM an 04 any way. Its not an explorer. Its not a ranger. Its wired similar to a late 90's model explorer and similar to an 04 ranger. I believe that this 04 ST was a flex fuel the vin letter X. So I have a 4.0 sohc flex fuel 5r55e auto 4x4 xlt. I wonder because it dosent have a tach wire do I need an ST gauge cluster. I would like to by a shop manual when I get some extra cash. Thats gonna be awhile though. If it is a flex fuel Im not finding the wire for the octane adjustment should be Dark Green.:icon_confused:
