Got my gears installed, but have a question. The center pin is not removable (yes I have a notched crosspin)? Whats the best way to remove it with the gears still intact? I want to install an Aussie Locker after the 500 mile break in period.

No, I mean the gears are so thick, there's not enough clearance for the pin to be physically removed from the carrier

And I dont know yet, the axles still not in the truck (Im building an Exploder Rear w/ discs)

Grind the ring gear and use a full cross-pin. Notched pins are weak and won't work with a locker.

Do you suggest grinding the gears AFTER or before they're broken in, and How much do you reccomend grinding? Just a single tooth need it? The pics a little blurry is why Im asking.

So you're telling me I just wasted 38 bucks on a notched cross pin? SHIT :annoyed:

Doesn't matter when you do it. Yes it's just a single tooth. Randy's R&P recommends it, along with myself and many others, so I'd say it's a safe bet :icon_thumby: I've found a Dremel tool with a sanding drum works very well. If you do it while still in the axle and everything be sure to mask everything up to keep shavings out.

I take it you dont have to take very much off of the gear? BTW, I really appreciate the help.

Yeah not much at all, just take it real slow and only take off just enough to get the pin past it. Wish you would have read around a bit before getting the gears, the grinding gear vs notched pin subject has been discussed a lot.

I have done this on multiple gear sets with no issues! Ditch the notched pin!!

I also grinded down my ring gear. Just take as little off like everyone said, just keep trying the crosspin til it just fits. And take the carrier OUT of the housing! It takes an extra 10mins, but saves hours of cleaning or worrying that you have metal shavi:icon_thumby:ng left in there. You only have to do one side remember.

It was a little off two teeth needed on mine, but no issues whatsoever (the very tips of the teeth normally don't make contact with the pinion teeth so the slight grinding won't affect anything).

Thanks everyone!!! I appreciate all the comments. I guess I should have done my research instead of listening to broncograveyard.com
