Not an A4LD though

The motor is still sitting on the floor with the headers on, so if someone brings an A4LD to my shop Ill happily test fit it.lol

Plum, those JBA's don't look much shorter than the Pacesetters I took off mine. That collector is in just about the same spot.

To be clear the issue was not interference with the trans itself, it was the shifter linkage that was the problem. The pivot rod where the lever reverses direction was only about an inch and a half off the collector, not leaving enough room to install the Y-pipe. It's not something you will be able to see outside the vehicle.

Then dual exhaust it is :)

Ahh, my bad, I misunderstood. I know a few people who might be able to help me fabricate something if I need to. I appreciate your insight!

Not a bad idea!! I currently have a cherrybomb piped out the side in front of the back wheels, and they always give me crap when I take it to get emissions done. would be a good chance to do it better ;)

Well, from everything I've heard so far, if I take this A4LD off, it will be to replace it because the 4.0 broke it haha
I'm really liking the idea of a manual Tcase while keeping the auto trans. I love my auto floor shifter too much ;)

you can fabricate linkage to keep the shifter and run any header or any transmission you want. its a shifter...you have to figure out your own bell cranks and lever ratios but its not rocket science.:dunno:

...the a4ld, on its best day is a pos, but you can make turds shine. sounds like your going to keep power stockish and tire size sane so making one work is very doable. cost effective....not so much. but i spent an inordinate amount of time and money scooping out and applying turd polish on the a4ld...

What I did was cut the shift linkage arm of the a4ld from the 2.9, welded it to the top of the a4ld shift linkage on the 4.0. Kept the cable linkage because I would like to make an aftermarket cable floor shifter work at one point but for now this has worked great. Also kept the interior look original to the 88 b2.

Noting the photos in above post-what i did is drop the tranny pan, pull the lever/ shaft assy and clocked the lever at the 12 o'clock position instead of the six o clock. Then made a custom linkage from all-thread and heim ends that allow for more misalignment when the truck flexes. Never had it pop out of gear even flexed out. The throttle valve arm will also have to be modded a little. I also love my floor shifter and like someone above said many options here but just make sure the gear detents match your shift gate detents. Like bobby said above- this is where your arm ratios come into play.
