Ive got a 2004 ranger 4.0 4x4 with just a little over 120,000 miles on it. when it hasnt been started in over 24 hours its alittle hard to get started, at first it starts a little rough, idles very rough for about 5-10 seconds and then dies. then afterwards it turns over for for a good 30-45 seconds before it starts then it jumps to a very high idle (around 2200 rpm.) once i put it in gear it drops to 1200. this is my DD and im afraid to drive it and get stranded some place. just looking to see what the problem might be. im also a new user to the site, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked your mass air flow sensor? A bad or dirty one will give similar issues, it's quick and easy to check

Temp sensor- if the computer thinks the engine isn't cold it will act this way until warm.

thanks i will give both a try. i had my suspicions but i will be sure to check into those.
