4.0 v6 miles per gallon

i'm looking to get a ranger single cab, found a 94 splash single cab 4.0 v6 stickshift with 50,000 miles i'd like to check into, if it gets decent mileage.
the ranger i used to have was also a 94 4.0 but with automatic, and i usually got between 16-20, and occassionally 21 or 22 on a long trip.

i've heard stickshifts get better than automatics.
any i would like some input. thanks.

Sticks do get better for the most part but nothing too amazing only about 1-3 mpg more. You can always get Engine mods to help with Mpg too, electric fans, ignitions amps, and all that good stuff

I get 25-27 mpg (Imperial) with my '04 Ranger 4x4, 4.0, 5 spd. Automatic @ 65mph on the highway. In town is another story!
Neighbour has '96, same truck 5 spd. std., gets same thing.
I did gain 2-4 mpg over prev. older 3 trucks with 4 spd autos. And my '92 5 spd std. got 27 consistently.

The few mods that actually do help with mileage have tradeoffs; this is why the factory didn't put them there. E.g., you trade cooling capacity or peak generating capacity for mileage. It's generally NOT a good tradeoff or it would have been there from the factory. There have been very large teams working on this problem at Ford since at least the early 70s. They aren't idiots.
