Hey, everybody! This really isn't an emergency situation, but I want to try to get it taken care of before it gets to that point. While I was driving today, I felt and heard my engine stutter, or hiccup. Basically, for a split second, it was like my engine wasn't running at all. Then, it kicked right back in. The first time it happened, I wasn't sure what it was. It only happened once. The second time was when I was accelerating through a turn. It happened two or three times back to back. I checked my gauges, and they all looked okay. I'm not out of gas (still have about a quarter tank), the battery gauge was good, and the oil and temp gauges all read okay. I'm not sure what the RPMs were, as my truck does not have a tach. If anybody can help, or if you need more info, please let me know. Thanks in advance!

Fuel filters get slowly stopped up and fail to pass the amount of fuel needed at high demand. Then as the days go by they get more and more stopped up. Finally only allowing enough fuel for an idle... Could this be the problem?

That is entirely possible. I thought I had replaced it recently, but when I got to thinking about it, I think its been a couple of years. As soon as it stops raining, I'll give that a shot, and hope I don't completely bog down in the mean time. I'll let you know how it goes once I've got it done. Thanks.

i have this problem but only when i go on long trips, (wierd i know) but i too changed the fuel filter but made no difference with the problem. but then again it doesnt hurt to change it. please let me know if you figured it out.

I have heard of this happening when the syncro is on its way out, have you ever changed it? Im not saying thats whats happening but some of these posts start with the same thing, "my engine stuttered a few days ago and then I lost oil pressure" again this may not be your problem but its worth a thought.

Oops just read what year your truck is, no syncro. Sorry I need to pay more attention:)

I had a similar problem and replaced the fuel filter... did not fix it. I ended up having to replace a severely swollen transmission vacuum line that was leaking tranny fluid into the motor. Probably not your problem but I would keep an eye on your exhaust and see if it comes out black or blue when your experience these "hiccups". It might help you diagnose the problem further.
