I got a 93 3.0 5 speed trans. My problem is I got a rather big leak were the 2 halfs of the transmission combine. There is no apparent gasket on there now but the person befor me used rtv from the looks of it.

Before it started out as just a drip here and there every day. Now all the sudden theres starting to be tiny puddles underneath to were I think in a months time the trans will be empty of fluid. Ive searched autozone, napa, ect and cant find this gasket anywere. Does anyone know were I can a gasket for the 2 transmission peices? I can get pics if needed. And I cant remember for the life of me which trans ford said I have.

you have an M5OD and i believe the case is sealed with rtv from the factory.

Even if it didn't, ultra-black RTV is quite good at sealing gearboxes. It's all you need.

Do make sure the leak isn't coming from above that, such as the shift tower or shift rail plugs.

Well I had the trans completly out of the truck about a month ago and Noticed there was no gasket there. I took the back half off (trans mount back) and cleaned it up really good. I put rtv all the way around on both peices. Put it all back together and torque'd the bolts down. I let it sit a day with the trans standing on the front end and let it all cure. Now its leaking more then it was before. Its all the way around the seal. Looks like from ontop of the trans its leaking also. I do have a new shifter on and a new gasket so I know its not leaking from there.

If it's leaking on top of the transmission, the oil will track down and toward the back of the truck. Is it possible the "leak" all the way around is really that?

I've sealed up multiple transmissions and rear/front ends using ultra-black RTV and never had a leak at a joint. I never bothered letting it sit either.

That "gasket" line is DIRECTLY under the "drip path" of the infamous "three rubber plugs"

If you cleaned and RTV's the tailshaft housing on it shouldn't be leaking there.

The factory seal IS RTV (Ultra grey to be specific) and I have NEVER seen one leak there.

+1 on the shift rail plugs. I thought at first mine was doing that, but replaced the shift plugs and no more leak.

any idea were I can get these plugs and also were on the trans are they located? I never even heard of these so the more info I can find the better. I.E. there function, location, things to check before you repair.

I went the freeze plug route.

looks like il be buying some freeze plugs and end this problem for good.
