I have a 4WD '99 4.0L OHV Ranger with the M50D-R1 5-spd. manual that has lost 5th gear and I have found a low-mileage M50D-R1 out of an '01 3.0L Ranger for a good price. . .only problem is the 3.0L is a 2WD model.
Question is. . .what needs to be done to change the 2WD transmission to a 4WD transmission beside changing the tailshaft housing?
I can remove my tailshaft housing and bolt it on the "new" transmission, but I don't know if the output shafts are the same or need to be changed or how much work that involves.
Thanks for the help!
