Ive been saving my money and planning for a 302 swap in my 88 ranger stx. After looking at many different f150's the obvious difference is price between 4x4 and 2wd. So my question is does anyone make an adapter that would allow me to us my stock transfer case and driveshafts and axles (until they break :scare: ) If i were to buy a 2wd f150 would this be do able.

Thanks
Jeff

itll cost u more for the adapter then the differences in the 2wd and 4wd

plus the intake will not fit without a body lift, and say good bye to A/c, i started with a 2wd f150, with a bad toque converter for my donor, worst mistake i made, if i where to do it again i would start with a town car, couger, mustang, or even a ford explorer), the accessories are longer on the f150 2, to had to push radiator back, and runner a puller fan behind the grill, then i had to change the pan to the dual sump pan. now if the f150 is carbed go for it:icon_thumby:

as for the t-case adapter, 3 choice, 2 for Advance adapters, on 2wd/4wd tear tranny all the way down, install new output for ranger BW t-case, get a 4wd AOD, run the T-case adapter for the manual trannies, no need to swap output shaft, option 3 for 4wd tranny, run a Full-size tranfer case,

i personnelly choice option 3, and picked up a NP208 from a bronco(fixed output unlike f150 version)

If the price difference is that bad, I would buy the 2WD F-150 and just make a junkyard run for another t-case. But like alaskan went through, the F-150 presents alot of less-than-ideal situations during the swap.

The E & F series intakes will fit under the stock hoods. Seen it done here or over in the RPS forums.

:bsflag: atleast a 2 inch body or raised hood, trust me, ive done it, and my motor sits pretty low with the L and L mount atleast for gen 2

I just bought a 98 Mountaineer 5.0 to do my conversion,I have a 98 Ranger 3.0, does anyone have any tips or suggestions to make it easier or is a plug and play deal? thanks,Neil

Nothing is plug and play with V8 swap :) I've bought a 1989 Bronco to do my swap in my 83 Ranger . The oil pan didn't fit(buy a dual sump pan), passenger side exhaust manifold run directly throught the fram rail(buy headers or find manifold from explorer 5.0L or Maverick). You will have to put at least a 2 inch body lift to clear the intake without alter the hood(i've put a 3 inch body lift and i have 3/4 inch of clearence between the throttle body and the hood). I've put a BW1356 transfer case( have to cut a little part of the t-case and the frame). And my 2 set of driveshaft(Bronco and Ranger) was machined to fit under the truck(150$ for the 2 d-shaft, better than 400-500$ for the adapter)

thats the reason I bought a Mountaineer/Explorer so I would have something that will be a drop in, plus I will have the wiring and ECU & tranny puter, radiator, all the nuts and bolts needed I hope. I am starting it in two weeks so I will let you know how things go. I also plan on swapping rear springs along with the axle since the Mountaineer has a 500lb greater GVWR then my Ranger, front diff also, just don't know yet if my torsion bars are the same or not, I figure if I measure the dia. it should tell me if they are different or not, again if anyone has done this suggestions will be greatly appreciated....Neil ps. I gotta get this done 'cause I am driving my 78 F250 4x4 390 4bbl the gas is killin me,,lol,,

he has a 98 ranger....98 mountaineer...

you can make the 150 intake work in the late models easily as well.

and with the right pan and wall mods the 150 and 351 truck engines fit real comfy, of course headers are an issue with those mods...

ac is very doable as well. lil more metel work.

thats all with no body lift.

of course, i always suggest at least a 1 in body lift, but prefer 1.5 or better

ok nevermind about the f150 i found someone who has a good running 302 out of a 86 mustang he also has a t-5 that needs a rebuild he said hell give me both for 100 bucks so now all i need is the cooling system stuff and headers but if the motor is out of a mustang do i need the dual sump oil pan?

Mustang are supposede to have that dual sump pan. they are easy to identify they have 2 drain plug, one on each sump
