Has anyone done a 2wd ax15 with a 302? I know Novak makes an adapter to this trans. Just picked a 96 short bed 2wd up trying to decide what trans I want to run. Btw truck will have a fuel injected 302 with plans of a turbo in the future.

Welcome to TRS :)

Popular choice is the M5OD-R2 5-speed from a 1997 and up 4.2l(V6) F150.
4.2l V6 has same trans bolt pattern as 302(5.0l), M5OD transmissions have integrated bellhousing so are engine specific.
In 1997 the M5OD-R2 shifter was moved farther back so is only an inch or so away from where the M5OD-R1 Ranger shifter is located.
The R2 was used on the modular V8s as well so can handle the power, but these won't match 302 pattern

Ratios are
1st 3.90:1
2nd 2.25:1
3rd 1.46:1
4th 1.00:1
5th 0.80:1

Very similar to AX15

And they came with 2WD or 4WD tail shaft housings

AX15 was used with straight 6 engines but can handle V8 power, turbo may be pushing things
M5OD-R2 was made for V8s and turbo would be pushing but I think OK

Ok I've been crunching number on transmissions the m5dr2 is not a trans I'm wanting to go with. It's a better work truck trans not what I'm looking for. The T5 is out of the question TKO too. Like what I see about the Tremec 3650 not sure I'm wanting to spend that much on adapting it to a 5.0 what other transmission can I use??

Ron what clutch are people using with the 4.2 v6 m5od-r2? Also flywheel? Can you use a f-150 flywheel and clutch/pressure plate?
