Just registered, added a thread to the newbie section, and thought I started a thread here with some ?s.
I did check things out enough to feel this was the area.
My brother is swapping a 2.3 carb pinto motor out of his sand rail for a 87/88 Tbird Turbo EFI motor.
Been using a blind chicken racing simplified wiring diagram.
Took some playing around to get it to the point he is at now.
He says that he can now get it to start, but stalls and dies once throttle is given.
Not 100% on the wiring set up so far, but being an electrician he does understand the diagrams and schematic better than myself.
He says that it seems to idle after starting, but apply any throttle and it shuts down.
Has to be turned off, let sit for a few, then can restart, idle, but dies again when throttled up at all.
He bought an inline fuel pump for it and has that running.
I think he got a replacement stock style coil after not seeing spark initially.
Pretty vague info for everyone, but I can try to get more specific if I know what to ask and check on.
Just wondering if there are any common issues and/or mistakes at this point?
I know that there is a trio of sensors on the intake side I am not sure what each is.
One two wire white plastic bodied aimed toward the front of the motor. @ black ones facing to the rear, flywheel end.
Seems like their wiring ties into the injector harness also.
He says that he has no connector or plug for the white.
Also diagram shows a knock sensor, I could not locate any?
Thought it would be towards bottom of block...
Saw a sensor between the injectors that I was not sure about either.
I was guessing that may be coolant temp??
Looked like oil pressure was near rear driver's side, correct?
Appreciate any ideas, suggestions, help that might be given.
Again, apologies for what is probably lack of real substance for diagnosis here, and THANKS ahead of time.

I haven't played with the 2.3 but....
Have you checked the fuel pressure?
 
He just bought a brand new pump and it appears to be doing what it is supposed to.
Has not ran a return line back to tank yet.
Had an electric pump for the carb motor but not enough psi for the efi.
Return is just dropping into a bottle right now until he gets more ironed out and running.
Seems like it loses both spark and quits firing the injectors at the same time.
I think that he is assuming something in the wiring is wrong, a faulty electrical component (maybe ignition module), or something needs to hooked up yet that is not.
BTW: he did say a couple days ago that local parts store told him that they could test his ignition module. I had never heard of being able to test one. I know I bought a few when I swapped a 1985 Mustang GT 5.0 efi into my old 1980 Bronco years ago. This has same type of module. Mounted to distributor body. Think they are referred to as thin film if I remember right.

I think I might have a fuel pressure gage still the threads on top of the Schrader valve.
Maybe I will dig it out and take it next time I am down there just to ensure something squirrelly is not happening.
 
The fuel pressure regulater could be fubar even if the pump is good. Smell the vacuum line form the FPR, if gas smell then diaphram is pooched. Pressure test will tell.

My brother uncovered a couple errors on his wiring diagram.
Sorted that out and is getting closer.
He has had it idling a little and revved enough to figure that it is wired correctly and getting closer.
Still a lot of stuff to take care of.
He is now looking at the cooling system.
Wants some sort of affordable compact radiator.
Probably going to mount on the tube frame and plumb from there.
He sent me specs of 22 1/2" spacing between the down tubes over the engine where he wants to mount.
1 1/4" thermostat hose diameter.
1 1/2" water pump hose diameter.
Has anyone been through same with a rail?
Any stock application radiators work well and fit?
Hoses that help?
Appreciate any advice again!
