is the new to America ranger that we'll be getting next year, considered a "RBV"? Is it technically the same lineage since I assume the platform is "new" but production for America stopped , but the rest of the world kept getting them? Did we get skipped by a generation or is this just a continuation of the Aussie T6. These are questions that the internet seems to glide over.

Like when Chevy brought the GTO back to USA, it was really just a Holden Manaro with aluminum suspension and Pontiac badges.

It is based on the Australian T6.

It is a completely different platform than the previous North American Ranger.

IMO it is as "Ranger" as anything. Most successful models get an entire refresh once in awhile, the old Ranger was an exception to that rule.

Are the 2012 Focuses not really a Focus? They have 5-lug wheels and rear disc brakes standard, all the Focus cars up to that point 4-lug and rear drums, unless you had an SVT.

The Mustang has been through many variations. It started as a "small" family car, relatively speaking, became a big-body muscle car in the 70s, then turned into the almost compact Fox body for the 80s and early 90s, then started getting bigger again with the SN95 body. So Classic, Fox body, SN95, New Edge, SN197, which one isn't really a Mustang?

You could argue that it's not an RBV because it's not based on the original RBV platform. This one was developed independently and marketed as a Ranger for different sales environments. That said, it's been a Ranger for years and it's going to be sold as a Ranger here. It's really hard to say something called a Ranger isn't Ranger based.
