Hello everyone. I'm looking at purchasing a 2011 Ranger Sport that is metallic silver YN paint code, but under the hood, it looks almost like an off-white or light beige color. Is this a base coat from the factory, and is this how they did them and sold them?

The quality of painting looks very good (factory), but I can't understand why it would be a light beige or off-white instead of silver like the exterior. The vehicle gives no other indications of repainting. Is anyone else's like this? Can anyone else take a photo under the hood for me?

I've never seen a Ranger where the engine bay didn't match the exterior color

Is it the same everywhere in the engine bay? Or does it look correct near the top where the hood meets the fenders and then fade to the off-white color lower down in the bay?

I work in the paint shop for another manufacturer. Our engine bays get painted under the hood and around the top portions of the engine bay. But lower and deeper in there, it is mostly just varying degrees of over-spray. It is very difficult to get the robots way down in there for complete coverage. There just isn't much room. Our bodies receive a complete undercoat that is chemically adhered in an electrolytic process. Then they come to the spray booth where the base coat and clear coat are sprayed on. The undercoat is a uniform color that can be seen on the bottom of the car and in interior areas that don't get sprayed. Maybe what you are seeing is the u dercoat.

Now you got me wondering. I'll have to go look at my ranger's engine bay next time I get a chance.
