I could not believe that the rear end for my 2010 Ranger. I know it's special because 2010-2011 Ranger had rear disc. The research I did they are hard to find most are $700-$800. Wow I love my Ranger but what to do. I need my Ranger to go get a rear end for it.

It gets worse with the purchase of new u bolts... gear lube and friction modifier... brake parts... etc...

It seems high but if they used quality parts with all new bearings... gear set... seals and clutches... labor and have a 3 year warranty it isn't that bad considering $800 for a used one.

You could save money doing it yourself but I'd bet you'd have $700-$800 in quality parts. Then you need tools and time.

It cost about $900 to regear and install a track-lok on a Ford 8.8 a couple years ago when I did it.

Plus the special tools. I didn’t do the brakes at that time either.

Just bearings and seals was probably around $3/400.

Parts have probably gone up since then.

Lot of labor though, need to know what your doing or you can mess it up.

I thought this was used. Now my Son says a 3.73 gear would be better? Or would this mess up speedo and electronics? Thanks.

It's the best all around performance and gas mileage for a stock Ranger. A 4.10 will give you more get up and go, which is handy for stop and go traffic, hauling loads, and towing but the gas mileage will take a hit. The other direction is a 3.45 or 3.55, it's supposed to be a better highway gear for fuel mileage but your get up and go will take a hit. In my experience, at least with a four cylinder engine, the gas mileage was the same as the 4.10 and the truck couldn't get out of it's own way. Power was anemic and the truck didn't start getting it's legs until about 70 mph. Even with the newer, more powerful 2.3 in the 2010, I would steer clear of the 3.45 or 3.55. Whether you go with the 3.73 or 4.10 would be a personal call based on what kind of driving you do.

Someone else will need to answer that and give you the right answer. I didn't have to do that with my '98 but the speed sensor is in a different place.

what is wrong, or are you upgrading?

So if I went with 3.73 can the truck be recalibrated?
If your truck is 4wd youll have to change the front gears as well.

Otherwise yes a dealer should be able to recalibrate the speedo for the different gears.

The one you posted originally is a rebuilt. So yes its "used" technically but all (or most) the guts should be new.

The webaite i posted is basically a search engine for junkyards and that would be "used" all the way through. But being a 2010 it shouldnt be to hard to find a decent somewhat low mileage rear for alot less money.

If you were a bit closer I might consider getting rid of the 2010 axle I have.
car-part does show a few. check Mazdas too.

On your 2010 you should be able to correct the speedo for different gear ratio by Forscan.

I would not change from the 4.10. Even going to 3.73 will be effectively a 10% reduction in power/torque.
