2003 ranger turn signal inop

been trying to fix my kids left rear turn/brake light. replaced the turn signal and multi switch at the steering wheel (he says the turn didn't work before we replaced it, the arm broke that's why we replace that part). also replace the plug there, (2 of the prongs broke). the front turn signal works. the flasher does sound faster on the left turn than the right. which usually tells me that the faster circuit is open or bad bulb/fuse. changed the bulb and there is no power at the wire by the socket. a friend of mine told me there is another module somewhere that controls turn and brakes??? anyone have any others ideas of what could be wrong?
