2001 Ranger weird 4x4 issue, problem switching to 4wd......

Hi everyone, I have searched all over and can't find an answer to my problem, there was one guy that had the same problem and mention he fixed it in his post but didn't say what he did (why do people do that? If you fix it post the fix online so the next person knows what happened). Anyways, I have a 2001 Ranger 3.0L 4x4, when I try to switch it to 4wd I get no response. I have to pull the fuse out and put it back in and it starts working fine like it's supposed to. After I "reset" it it works fine until it sits for a few hours or so than I have to "reset" it again to go into 4wd. Curious if anyone has seen or experienced this and figured out how to fix it. Thanks.

4x4 2001 Ranger not clicking into 4x4

I have checked several threads with no luck. I went to the J yard and pulled what someone told me is the 4X4 control Mod, to replace, but this one has an arrow (Forward) on it and it says restraints control module.?? Could they be the same module?? Location of the two are behind the passenger kick plate. Please advise? Is this a dual module? Any one know??

You have the wrong module.

The 4x4CM has THAT printed right on it. It's a plastic box. They are all over E-gay, LOOKS LIKE THIS ONE:

Yeah, that is kind of a dumb question. The 4x4 system is not a "restraint" is it?

You grabbed an airbag module. Go find the guy who told you that was the right one and kick him in the shin.


I got nothing on this 4x4 issue. Could be the module.

It's behind the passenger side kick panel and is the most likely cause of your problem. I've replaced lots of them on '01-'02 Rangers.
