2000 Mustang GT seats in a 1994 Ranger?

Hey TRS, I was looking into bucket swaps for my '94 supercab Ranger (60/40 bench seats) and I found a guy locally that has a complete 2000 Mustang GT interior for sale, he's gutting the car (front end damage) to use the powertrain in a project truck.

But I was wondering if anyone has some specific information, how-to's, pictures, etc of this type of swap?

Do I just use the Ranger seat rails and bolt the Mustang seats to them? Is it that simple? Is there a how-to somewhere?

Also, the Mustang driver's seat is powered, so I will have to run 12v to that, but I'm not worried about that one, that should be straightforward.

I'm more concerned about exactly how the seats can be made to fit, and what the pitfalls/showstoppers/workarounds are?

And for a center console, the Mustang one won't work, as it in integrated into the dash. I was thinking maybe Explorer center console? Thoughts?

The answer would be no they won't. They may get close on regular cab seat frames. Buy em, re-drill the holes in the seat bottom frame and bolt em on.

Where's my Staples "Easy" button???
 
not trying to take the thread but do you know how to mount the arm rest I have the same console just not installed.

there is a metal A frame that ties into it the armrest and the console screws to it, it bolts to the floor you need one to insall the console successfully
 
Hmm, I guess I left this thread to orphan. Sry.

I'll post a pic of the mustang seats and ranger console tomorrow!

They fit right up, as promised, with a little drilling and tapping of the mustang seat base to match the ranger seat tracks.

Did you manage to run 12V power to the driver seat?

Console: what is it out of, and how did you mount it? (I'm also starting w/ 60/40 split seats and flop-down armrest/storage combo thingy...)
 
I did not use the Mustang power seat track. I bolted the drivers side Mustang seat to the Ranger manual seat track.

Although, I DO still have the Mustang power seat track, and have considered trying to make it work. I think I'd need some sort of custom mount, or hack my ranger seat track and modify it to weld onto the Mustang item.

As far as 12v supply, I think you'd have to find a circuit on the ranger of adequate amperage to supply the seat, or run a dedicated fused lead from the battery to the seat.

I tested the Mustang power seat rack with some temporary 12v leads, and it works, so I just may do that sometime.

As far as the console, it's a Ranger item. I don't know what year, but I think all the later Rangers used the same console as I've seen it in 2010-ish models. I picked it up at a wrecking yard. Be sure you get ALL the parts, the internal mounting bracket is key! I had to go back to the wrecking yard and ask for it once I figured out how it can't be mounted without it.

I drilled through the floor using the internal bracket as a guide, and through bolted the bracket using galvanized carriage bolts. I sealed the washers and nuts to the underside of the cab sheetmetal with some silicone to prevent water/salt from eating at the holes I drilled.

Thanks for the detailed reply, it really adds value to this forum. You do the kind of quality all-points-covered work I like to do... esp. when drilling holes in "my baby", lol.

Now all you have to do is resist the urge to install a Hurst shifter in your "racy" interior. :icon_thumby:
 
Thanks, I'm somewhat allergic to drilling holes too, at least where they can be seen. That's why I put in the "special" ford fitment pioneer 5x7 speakers instead of the standard 6x9s, because I didn't want to hack holes for speakers.

I'm gonna strip the interior right away soon and install my new vinyl matting I got from Auto Custom Carpets. The 17 Y.O. Carpet smells funky no matter what I do to clean it.

So out come the seats, console and carpet, in with the dark grey vinyl.

If I find any rusty spots, I'll hit them with a wire wheel and prime them before putting the vinyl and underpad down.

If all the Mustang power seat thingy does is slide it fore and aft on the tracks, I agree, why bother? If it pumped up the lumbar and tilted the thigh bolster, and such things that really matter on long drives, then it might be worth the DIY electrical "adventure". Obviously pulling up the factory carpet is the time to run such wiring.

RE: Vinyl flooring, you're gonna love it. I lucked out as mine came factory with sturdy rubber-y (vinyl?) black flooring, heavily pebble-grained for wet shoe traction, yet easy to clean and NON-porous, i.e. doesn't hold any odors. Very "truck-like" and practical. One sponge and done. Has not stretched out or loosened one bit, despite the high heat of NV, AZ, and FL. I think it was part of the 4x4 "Sport" package. Sales weenies will definitely have to drop price if not standard on my next truck.

It adjusts the seat fore/aft and also up/down. Really, once the seat is set where you want it, you never move it, right? Only handy when someone smaller or bigger is getting in the vehicle, and almost nobody drives my truck but me.

I was gonna do the vinyl flooring tonight, as I have to stay up late anyhow to switch over to nightshift, but I ran out of motivation. Saturday methinks.
