I looked and didn’t see one, but that’s not saying much! Lol

I need to pull the heads and replace the head gaskets on 2000 4.0 Ranger engine.
Is there any basic tutorials on this this?

Something that would let me know of any unusual or specialty tools?
Advice of order to do certain steps to make this go bit smoother?

I’ll buy manual, for doing head gaskets, is Chilton or Haynes manual better for this job?

Didn’t know if one or the other was bit better for certain work or not.

Cheers, Allen

Chilton and Haynes manuals are better than nothing but are a heck of a lot cheaper than a Ford Service Manual. I paid a good chunk of change for my service manuals but I knew I would be using them a lot since I prefer to do all my own maintenance.

As far as a “How to article”, I’m not sure if there is one. Check the Technical Articles section. Fordtecmakuloco is a good youtube source on Ford vehicles but I’m not sure if he did a head gasket job on a 4.0.

Being that your truck is a 2000, I’m assuming you have the SOHC. If so, I could scan pages from my 2011 manual for you. It might have to be via private message or email. Some manufacturers don’t like copy right material posted on forums.

why did it lift a gasket? May need to have them checked.

I’m going to have heads check and rebuilt at auto machine shop.
I replaced the heater control valve they switched coolant through the to the heater core.
Must have got bubble in system, because after driving while, temp gauge went up to normal warm temp.

But it lied! Lol
She was hotter than firecracker, pulled over soon as it seemed odd running.
But too late, have water in oil.
So will have heads checked & rebuilt since they’re off, providing they aren’t warped or cracked.

Hold your mouse over the name of the person you wish to private message. A small window will pop up. Click on the "Start Conversation" button to start a private message. Depending on how big the section you need is, it may take me some time to scan the 2.5"-3" thick book page by page.
