2.9L scorpio into '90 ranger will ranger ECU be compatible ?

IF I change all the accessories (electrical sensors & wiring harness etc) from my dead ranger donor engine, couldn't I use my ranger ECU instead of bending over to get a scorpio ECU ? Junk yard said only scorpio ECU, but if I change it all over to ranger configuration it would seem to work logically in my mind. Any thoughts ? Thanks-Shane

idk but i think the rangers 2.9 has a different camshaft profile then the scorpio.

well they suggest to use the ECM from the donor of a 4.0, when doing that swap...make sense to use the ECM from the scorpio for your application

That only is true if you are swapping in a different engine than what is previously in there, I am swapping a 2.9 for a 2.9 same engine, same family just different Ford vehicles. A gentlemen on a merkur forum recommended I stay with the Ford ECU/ECM cause it will possibly generate more ponies . . . only time will tell.
