My truck runs fine when its cold outside but when the weather gets pretty hot it starts to misfire and gets worse and worse as i drive it, then eventually dies out on me, then i will try to start it and it will just crank for awhile and eventually start up again and repeat what it did before

1986 to 1992 2.9l uses Speed Density computer software which is not "adaptive", so doesn't like extremes, in elevation(air pressure) or temperature

But............the TFI module may be your problem if its older, they get heat sensitive as they age
Coils can also get heat sensitive, but TFI module is more likely the issue

If engine can be restarted after engine bay cools down then TFI is likely the issue
Open the hood to release heat faster

Are your fuel lines too close to the exhaust? Does the misfire go away after you rev it? It could be a vapor lock-like issue.

New parts like tfi can be defective out of the box, especially if a no-name brand.
X2 on the coil.
Have you tried checking for codes?
