In your first post you said you are running "endurance" races. I would think there is a delicate balance there between reliability and power. If the 2.9 you used had plenty of power, the 4.0 will have more right off the bat stock.
I see it all the time, watching people compete in these drag "race weeks" where they have to win drag races and drive between the tracks also. A lot of the time, the fastest car does not win the event.
