I have the engine out of an 87 ranger (2.9) to make some repairs and fix leaks. On the back of the block there are two holes, one above and one below the cam stop. The holes have ball bearings in them that don't come out. There is also oil there and I don't know if it is coming from them or if it dripped down from the top of the block. What are these and what do I need to do with them while i have the engine out? I have seen pictures of others that look like they are plugged. Please advise.

Where is the picture again?
