Hi,

I'm finishing up my Duraspark conversion on my 85 B2. She starts on fuel poured into carb, but isn't getting fuel to the carb. I bought a new fuel pump from one of the chain stores, and I was surprised that the chamber on the bottom is open, you can look in and see the spring. Some other pictures online seem to show a metal plate over this area. Is it correct to assume the following:
1. My old fuel pump will have this plate and I pry it out?
2. I'll pack this chamber with grease and knock the plate from the old pump into it?

OR, it's fine to run it open?

OR, do I return the one without the cover and buy one with?

Many thanks, Steve

Got a pic? I’m having a hard time visualizing it. It should have an opening between the bolt holes for the rod that drives the pump to go in.

I don't have a picture of my new one as I'm at work, but it's the black rectangular area shown at the right bottom of this picture. This one appears filled/blocked/capped whereas my new one lets you peer into the area and see the spring within.

This is what I was talking about, I'm taking this one back today and I have already ordered one like the one shown above. I still don't know how this opening is addressed on factory units - is it a metal or rubber cap, or some material that is cast in place?

No es bueno.

It’s covered with a steel plate, staked in place.
