I know this topic has been covered however I ran into an issue that hasnt been discussed. I have an 87 ranger 2.9l. I am swapping a 92 2.3l into this truck. On top of the engine swap, I am swapping the 2.3l to carbureted woth a duraspark ignition system. Being a 92 2.3l, it has a hole for a distributor, but the camshaft doesnt have a gear for the distributor. I have not been able to find a replacement camshaft with a gear. Anyone have an idea or fix?

Distributor would go in the hole where the Camshaft Synchronizer was, driven off of the aux/oil pump shaft.

The gear has to be there, it's what drives the Camshaft Synchronizer and oil pump

The gear for the distributor drive is on the aux shaft not the camshaft, and the dual plug engines had that gear on the aux shaft (might not have the fuel pump lobe though...) until the oil pump redesign around '95... since the dummy that clamps in there drives the oil pump...

a distributor won't fit in with a stock dual plug intake manifold so you'll have to modify that...
