My credo
One day at a time. None of us get out alive.
I have a 92 ranger with the 2.3 that has 8 spark plugs. The truck came factory with a 5 speed manual transmission. I am attempting to change from the manual to the A4LD automatic. I have found two (2) different ECU/ECM part numbers and I'm not sure which I would need to use. Any help or guidance would be appreciated. The part numbers are F2PZ-12A650-ABA and F2TZ-12A650-RGB.

Here are all the different flavors of ECM's for a 1992 2.3. Looks like they list all the auto numbers but not the manual numbers Do any of these numbers match your old auto ECM?

Electronic Control Module, 4-140 (2.3L), AT, ID F27F-FA
Electronic Control Module, 4-140 (2.3L), AT, ID F27F-FB
Electronic Control Module, 4-140 (2.3L), AT, ID F27F-FC
Electronic Control Module, 4-140 (2.3L), AT, ID F2PF-AAA
Electronic Control Module, 4-140 (2.3L), AT, ID F3PF-JA
Electronic Control Module, 4-140 (2.3L), MT, California
Electronic Control Module, 4-140 (2.3L), MT, Federal

I did not have an old auto tranny ECM. The truck was originally manual. The ECM for the manual was damaged in a small fire and I can longer read the part number sticker. But I have been told, and found in my research, that the auto and manual tyranny's have different and very specific ECM's. I had a friend give me an ECU/ECM out of a 90 ranger 2.3. But it only had the 4 spark plugs not the 8 like mine. So i don't know if that would work or not. But again, my research says it will not. I found a company that can reproduce the ECM but I would need to provide the proper number for the ECM and I don't know what the difference in the ECM' are for the 2 part numbers I originally provided.

That second number also shows: California Emissions | 4.9L | A/T | EOD

Not a Ranger part at all.
