Well first off I have a 1984 Ranger..I bought the truck with a blown, well a knocking motor..So I got a complete motor/trans plus all the wiring and ecu for a good price..I got the Motor/trans in and got some of the wiring laid out to where it should go...Theres alot of the connectors I wont be using do to the powerbreaks and all the little senors that say things are low and what not..Iam just curious if anyone has done this swap and if they had any pics of them in the process...I have a pretty good idea but pics will help...Sorry for this to be soo long just want to get this truck done already:icon_twisted:

My dad put a 87 2.3 liter in my 83 ranger that had a 2.3 carb in it (before it was my truck) but ya it can be done. Just take your time doing the wiring. Btw did you get the gas tank and external fuel pump for the efi motor? That was another thing that had to be put on so that motor could get fuel. But ya it is totally do-able. But sorry I dont have pics. (the swap was done back in 2000). And ya my truck does have alot of connector ends on it that dont do anything because of the swap but everything does work. But im soon going to be putting a 2.8 liter in my truck because im tired of the lack of power(plus I got the motor for free).

You're switching from an EFI 4 back to a carb'd 2.8? The 2.8 only made 115hp from the showroom. A 2.3 nearly matches it and is significantly more reliable.

Ya I got the tank all the gas lines and fuel pump..I got a good deal for everything so it was almost a plug and play situation..But I started to get confused and worried when I realized there were alot of connectors that wasnt pluged in..But like I said I dont have some of the extras as a new truck has like, powerbreaks,powersteering,ac/heat and the stupid overflow tube hahahah..But iam building this for the dezert so iam not too worried..I just need to get this motor running so I can smog it then comes the powerplant I want..Iam either gonna go sbc350 or a 302..

I know its kindof stupid to ask for pics when most people would just do the 302/350 swap already..But i have too so I can smog it then I can go with the power plant that I want.. If anyone has pics of engine bay will help also...Trucks with the 2.3 efi nothing newer than a 93-94 cause I think in 94 or 95 things changed in the engine bay..I just need a refrence on how things mount up//

thanks

Oh, I also have the og 2.3 carbed motor and trans that I would like to get rid of..Shoot me a pm for more info..Motor still runs but knocks and trans is in great shape..

The reason behind putting a 2.8 in place of my 2.3 efi is that my 2.3 doesnt run right. It dies at stop lights, idles up and down nonstop, and it only has 90 hp compared to 115 hp the 2.8 liter has. But about the 2.8 being carbed....forget that. Its getting a 3.8 liter TBI system put on it which wakes the motor up even more.
