1999 Ranger 4x4 4hi/4low dash lites flashing

Good morning, I'm new to the Station and hope I can get your thoughts on my "problem".
Bought a 1999 Ranger auto 4x4 last week. Tested four wheel system before buying, seemed OK; however today my 4hi and 4low lights flash on dash.
What's up?

Normally I find that when they flash is because it won't shift between 4Hi and 4Lo or come out of 4x4 at all.. I have the electric motor transfer case on my '96. I'll do figure 8s and such.. sometimes it's just stuck there because the gears are binding or tight (in the case of 4lo).

Are you in 4Hi or 4Lo? If you're on the pavement, it may be causing it to bind and the motor won't release.

I am in 2wd, while running down road (seeming to be all OK), the lights flash on/off a few times then it stops; a few miles (maybe 5 miles) it will do it again the stop for awhile.
I have read about transfer case motor issues as well as auto hubs.
I'm gonna get under it to check elect. connections.
Just don't know what to look for....yet

shift motor problem. unbolt it from the tcase and bench test it.. pretty easy to change out. new one is roughly 80 bucks.
