Can someone tell me if it is necessary to remove the plenum to replace the EGR pipe that goes from the EGR valve into the plenum. It looks like that is necessary but want to be sure before starting the job.

Last time I checked, you need to remove the plenum.
Its been a while, so don't swear by my word.

JMazda, I'm getting an intermittent the P0171 and P0174 error code. I've determined it to be the EGR outlet pipe O-ring being bad when I spray carb cleaner around the area where the pipe enters the plenum due to a vacuum leak.

ahh, i see. Is it making any nosies when you are driving? Esp. when accelerating.

no unusual noises but it will idle weird every once in a while especially after a hard drive. It never stalls and seems like it will want to stall. Just a tiny bit rough. If I blip the throttle I can get it to smooth out.
