Hi All, new to TRS and like all the content! Working on my 1997 Ranger Splash 2.3L after been sitting awhile... Having a bit of issue with the power steering pressure hose not tightening up after replacing original hose on original pump. I tried first replacement hose and the pump side would not tighten down. Looked at the fitting, threads were longer on the replacement not allowing the Teflon seal to even make contact. A lot of movement of tube through fitting. Replaced hose with one from Napa and threads are shorter on fitting closer to original. Some improvement but still seems to be a good bit of play. Fitting hole in pump is clear of debris. Has anyone one had this problem before. Trying not to change the pump if not needed... Any ideas?

Welcome to the site. It wouldn't be the first time a parts guy gave the customer the wrong part. If you still have the original hose you could match it up at the parts store to include the fitting ends.

I hear you on the perhaps wrong part. I did that as well for replacement #2. Looks like variation in manufacturing. I attached pics. Looks like there is an extra thread on the new fitting's length. Also seems to be different on the tubing with newer not protruding as much and a little larger diameter.

I literally just dealt with this last weekend... but on a 4.0 truck, same concept though. My original hose on the pump side had an internal seal on the nut, the new hose I got had no seal there but it had a white plastic ring seal right at the bottom of the threads where yours have seals at. There were instructions in the package that said that movement is NORMAL and that the hose nut should NOT be tightened past 20 ft/lbs or the seal will be ruined.

Basically... you should be able to twist the hose around in the fitting when it's tight. The cone thing that sticks out of the nut can vary in length but it doesn't matter because that's not what seals the hose into the pump.

The first hose I tried would not even allow the Teflon ring to make contact. The threads were bottoming out in the hole as the hole is not threaded full depth. The tubing was beyond a little movement and more like slop. You could move the tube in and out and wobble left to right. I am positive it would have leaked. I will replace Teflon seal and try with hose #2 again to see if my success will be as yours...

Thank you

From what it looks like, the actual fitting that seats looks to be different. It's like one side is an AN fitting (37*) and the other is a pipe fitting (45*) angles. Neither will seal on the other, but AN to AN or pipe to pipe will seal all day long.
