1996 Ranger 2wd front springs need replaced

I'm buying a 2wd 1996 Ranger ext cab with the 2.3 and a five speed. The seller had the rear suspension all redone but the front coils are weak enough that the front tires are actually toe out. How hard is it to change these springs and should I look for new ones or junkyard parts? Truck has 190000 miles on it but is in good shape. If I go for used parts what years can I look for?
 
you would be better off buying new springs, you could even get a pair of levling (ie 2inch lift) coils for about the same price, about 100-120 bucks.

you will need to get a aliment as well, ethier way you go.

if you bent on going the junk yard route, any ranger or bronco2 up to 97 will work.....explorer springs will work to, and even provide little lift, but they will also rise rougher.as they have a higher spring rate
 
thanks, I wasn't sure how old of a rbv I could go with. I see alot of "parting out" ads in the paper and thought about just trying to get used ones. How hard are they to change? Also I am assuming that I need to find a 2 wheel drive donor or are they the same as 4x4?

2wd/4wd should be the same, 4x4;s sat higher from the width of the 4wd beams compared to the 2wd beams.


ITs really very simple to swap springs in these trucks.

jack up truck and put a jack stand under the frame,

take the tire off

1-1/8 wrench to get the spring holding bolt off.

pop the shock lose on what ever is best for you.

pop the sway bar link lose

you may or may not have to stand on the rotor to get the beam to droop down a tad bit, and the spring should pretty much fall out at this point.

if you can change your oil, and spark plus you won't have any problems with this.

if you happen to get a set of the levling spings, you may need some one to stand of the rotor while you work them in.

no need for a spring compressor or the need to worry about making spring rockets or anything on these trucks.
 
Thanks, I happened to be at a auto parts store today and found a set for about 65 so I might just go with new ones. I'll probably replace the shocks while I'm in there. I dodn't want to go with leveling springs because if I am hauling anything I dont want my headlights in the sky. Thanks for all the help
