I just had a sorta major problem develop with my 4r55e in my '95 Ranger 4.0L 4x4. The truck does have 246,000 miles on it. I have had the front end rebuilt and the transfer case gone through and many other things fixed or replaced since I bought the truck last year. But anyway I was out playing in the snow today after the storm passed and my transmission started doing some funky stuff. I have had a od light flashing from time to time but no major issues. Today After about a 1/2 hour of wheeling the transmission started acted like it only has second and reverse. But when I drive down the road I can manually shift it up to third and it engages and drives fine. When I put the transmission down into first it clicks like it is trying to engage but won't. I think I broke it. :headbang: Any toughts about what might have happened. I must also state everything on this truck is original and has never been upgraded or rebuilt minus the fore mentioned items. Thank you all in advance for your suggestions and advice.

bad sensor? got a little ice jammed up there i am thinking. check your fliuld and see if you didnt burn up ant clutches in side the trans....when the o/d light flashed. in my head it is telling me to stop. i lost the trans in my 95 bronco for that same reason...but it was nasty mud

Check your transmission range sensor on the transmission. All my Rangers have done this to me when wheeling in the winter time and ice.

Let the truck thaw out inside if you can and unplug the connection on the transmission range sensor to make sure no water is in the plug. Always takes about two days for my Ranger to shift properly again.

I have one sitting at home thawing out as we speak because of wheeling on Christmas. :headbang: It started missing 2nd and every once in a while wouldnt engage reverse or drive, only 1 and 2.
