Have a 1994 Ranger XLT as seen in thumbnail. Put a new motor in over this summer (4.0). Ended up having a caliper seize and melted my auto hubs so I put a new set of Warn 29071 Manuels (Si, señor) on there. If its not one thing its 50. The transfer case electric motor bit the bullet so I have to replace that now- but also the crappy God-awful A4LD is slipping in overdrive. What a miserable transmission. I really dont feel like swapping it out for another grenade... Not to mention finding 4x4 trans used around here is next to impossible.

I have an 89 Bronco 2 that I cant get a title for - so it's good to cannibalize. Wonder if I can take the Mitsu 5-spd out of that (and pedal assembly and hydrolic clutch etc) and use that in place of my auto trans...? I guess that route would necessitate the cv style driveshaft to boot huh? I wonder if the BW 1354 in my ranger will bolt up to the mitsu trans? This is frustrating. I have low funds and basically a 3 speed automatic trans.

Any ideas? Id rather put a 700r4 w an adapter plate than waste time slugging another A4LD sorry to ramble

Bronco 2's 2.9l engine used the same block as 4.0l so transmissions can be interchanged.
You can use the 2.9l clutch assembly but not sure about 2.9l Flywheel??

Your 4.0l computer will turn on the CEL(check engine light) with no automatic hooked up, it will still drive OK, may have higher idle.

BW1350 and BW1354 transfer cases have the same mounting to trans so that shouldn't be an issue.
Drive lines should be OK if you remove extension housing.

Good read here on most of the issues: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/A4LDto5Speed.shtml
