While tearing my dash apart to work on instrument panel bulbs, I discovered an unused electrical connector behind the dash panel. It's below the headlight switch, inserted in the back of the dash bezel. Any clue as to what unpaid for factory option I may actually have and never knew it?

Fog lights maybe?

It's the fog light switch wire. Wiring for options such as fog lights was often installed regardless of whether the actual option was. It costs less to just make a single wiring harness and install it in every truck and then add the optional features later. There may very well also be wires for the fog lights all the way up to the bumper.

This is a 93-97 fog light bumper.

This is the switch.

AWESOME, but why in the world do all the bumpers I look at with the fog light holes say, "not for Splash"?

I have no idea what is different about the splash bumper. But like I said, splash or not it would get the same wiring harness as all other rangers because it's simply cheaper. Even if the splash package never had a bumper that could use fog lights it would still get the same wiring harness as everything else which includes the plug for fog light options. Look at 2wd rangers and you will still see the 4x4 lights on the instrument panel. Many parts from non existent systems and options exist on all trim models.

Is there any possibility that you could take a picture behind and underneath your Ranger showing the fog light connectors there so I might be able to locate them on mine not to mention how the bumper connects compared to mine? Thanks in advance!

I don't own a ranger of that era, mine is a 2009. Those pics I posted were just random pics of a 1994 from this site. I'm sure someone else may be able to help with that though.

I have a 94 Ranger Splash 4.0L 4x4 stepside. I have the same connectors - under the dash and under the front bumper on both sides. I can take a pic, of the under bumper connections but not till later today if you want it.

Lemme know.

Definitely! Thanks much. You have any experience with:
1.High beam indicator not working with a known good bulb?
2. Wiper only works on high and won't park.
3.Recently had tranny rebuilt after sitting for almost a year. Tranny shop tried to fix a rough idle by replacing IAC, but faulters now from a stop. Ok after that, but still sputters and faulters when accelerating from a stop.

Sputtering from a stop sounds like a vacuum leak.

Sorry, but I have no experience with those items (High beam and wiper) -- only because mine haven't gone bad yet :p Regardless, when it comes to switches, my solution is remove and replace. I was going to purchase the front fascia and add the fog lights all from Rock Auto, but when I went to purchase, the fascia was out of stock.

You should do something about that body mount bushing and it's lack of washer.

Ha. Yeah, I know. Thanks for pointing it out. I thought the same thing when looked at it. Add it to the list
I just backed it into the barn for the winter. Next up are coils up front and shocks all around. Drums. And then chassis stuff. Just started this spring and got a lot of stuff done. But - and I'm sure you know this as well as anyone - it's a work in progress and always will be.
Have a great Thanksgiving!
