1990 auto trans issue

Recently bought a 1990 ranger with auot trans.It has developed a n thumping/clunking noise in the driveline somewhere.Checked for balance and also carrier bearing everything ok.Could there be a vent on the trans. that is blocked causing the issue? thankyou...
