Hey I have a problem. I got a 1989 Ford Ranger 4cyl, 5spd. It died on me last night as I pulled into my apt complex, thank god. The fuel pump does buzz and sounds like its working when I turn the key, I filled up before I got home, when i turn the key, the fuel pump buzzes, it will start but it will stutter and run for about 5 seconds, rev up to 1500rpm or so and then just cut off and die. Battery is good, checked all of the fuses. I have no bloody idea what it could be. Does anyone have any suggestions. I have class at 1:30 and I am trying to fix this ASAP lol

put a fuel pressure gauge on it and see if the pump is actually building pressure.

well its now doing it when it feels like. Regardless of whether its hot or cold. Gas is full, and when it does start to die and putter down, I feather the gas and it resets itself only to be cut off again 5 mins later. I am thinking it may be something to do with the plugs and wires, possibly an easy fix, or it could be something as horrid as a fuel pump, because I don't have a garage anymore. lol

I would first try changeing the fuel pump relay, it might not be kicking back in when it's suppose too, I had one that did that to me, would buzz the pumps, the when I started it, would kick out after a few, turns out it was getting hot and kicking out till it cooled down.

you can jump the relay on the two big wires, and the pumps will kick in and stay kicked in, try that, it don't cost a thing to try, if that don't fix it then try something eles.
