1988 Ranger 5speed-which transmission?

I have a 1988 Ranger 2.9l 2wd 5 speed manual truck with transmission troubles. It won't shift without grinding sound and hard shifting. I want to buy a used tranny to put in it but not sure if its a Mazda or Mitsubishi?

if its the longer stick (with the full boot over the length of the stick, clear to the ball) its the mazda M5OD, if its the short stick, with the small boot that doesnt go up the shaft, its the mitsu. more thasn likely its the mazda trans, my '88 with the 2.3 had the mazda trans. this chart may say different,
