1988 2.9l Trouble Starting and staying running

So I did change out the filter..the old one had to of brock cause it rattled when shaking..but after that I still got no pressure and it still didn't want to start..so I thought what if I take the return line off of the FPR and see if it pushing fuel back cause I know it gets fuel all the way to the rail..and this is what is did when the fuel pump was running

Nothing comes out

Did you have fuel pump on full time with jumper wire?
Fuel will only come out of regulator when pressure is over 40psi

If so then you don't have fuel to the engine

Take off the IN fuel line and see if rail is getting fuel, or press the pin in the fuel pressure test port., be careful

Ok I couldn't get the inlit hose off but I followed my gas line and even with a new filter it feels like there gads flowing into the filter but not out the other side of the filter and if it is its so small I can't feel it flowing like I can going into the filter

I doubt a new filter would be plugged, but can you check the flow from the high pressure pump's outlet using a length of fuel line hose into a catch can? Be careful !
