I found out that my alternator isn't charging the hard way. but i replaced the internal voltage regulator because autozones tester said it was bad so I replaced it but its still not charging now it just has low output what would you guys say is wrong with it :icon_confused:

The charging brushes may be bad. Think theres a rebuild kit for them or you can get a new one.

what would cause the brushes to go bad?
I know that my brushes are low and I already have them ordered, so hopefully that will fix it.

The brushes are the parts that make contact to the moving parts in it. I've read a guy on here who bought a ranger brand new and his alternator didn't go out until th truck had 194,000 miles on it. The bearings didn't sqeak and didn't have any play in them is he put new brushes in it and after 10 min. of breaking in the brushes, the alternator started charging.

Its nothing to worry about or look into. With some things, if they wear down, they are working properly. Its when those things dont wear down is when you have the problems.

there is an aftermarket for rebuilt alternators...it's one of the few things that can be rebuilt for next to nothing...I usually just go to a junkyard and grab one...the one on my Ranger was purchased two years prior to my rebuild project...and it still works after sitting for five years...I think~!

well i changed out my alt with a new one from autozone and i handed him the old one he looked at it and asked me if i took that off of a different motor :dunno: oh well my truck runs now!:icon_thumby:
hopefully it will stay like that for a while:annoyed:
