1986 Ranger with 14" rims, I want 15" (for better tire selection) -- info pls?

The offering of 14" tires stinks. I notice the later Rangers have 15" rims, anyone have info on swapping? Is this just a 1:1 swap? I don't have a lift kit in and not sure I want one and I don't need huge tires, just want slightly bigger ones.

My factory tires are 195/95R14, I was looking at some 215 or 225 tires. profile would be 65 or 70 for a slightly taller tire.

Anyone have input? yes, I know the speedo will be a little off. I am concerned about fitting under the fender and axle issues with a bigger/wider tire.

Can I use rims from a later model Ranger? Do they have the same bolt pattern?

I use this calculator to see the tire size difference:

THANKS

The rims will fit no problem. I assume you have a two wheel drive so the truck is a little lower than a 4 x 4, this will mean you have less room in the fenders. If you look at the chart for tyre diameters and keep that in mind when getting tyres you should have no problem.

Thanks Martin

Yes, RWD. I might put a small lift kit in, but really just because I am tall and it's a bit of a pain to stoop to get into the truck.. ha!

I don't want tall tires, just a better tire selection for truck. Almost all the 14" tires are for cars nowadays, and the truck models are $$$. More offerings at 15"

thanks

now, anyone have a plain set of Ranger 15" rims for sale?

Where are you located? If you're fairly close to me I have a spare set of wheels and tires.

15" wheels from any other Ranger or Explorer will bolt on just fine. A 215/70-15 will slide right in.
First Gen 4x2's can't fit too tall a tire in the front, especially if the springs are sagging (which most do).

I have 15's on mine and have no issues at all. My tires are 215/70/15. About an inch or so taller than stock.

Thanks for the info, that's the tire I would use. I have new springs ready to put on!

I have P235 R15's on my 2WD '93 with no issues.

I USED to run wider and/or taller than normal tires on my trucks but it's a BITCH to keep those tires from wearing at the sides, I ended up going back to stock. Very happy with that decisicion, my manual steering turns much easier, and I get slightly better economy keeping it stock.

My 88 can take up to 225/75/15 with no problem...the 235s tend to rub the rear fenders...when you hit bumps...but a 2" lift will cure that...

Rapid City, South Dakota...just a little ways away from you, lol. Probably wouldn't be worth shipping them.

i have a set of 15" ranger rims. they're are the ones with the circles around them. they're in decent shape, some black spots and fading aluminum. the center caps plastic is coming off, too.

i also have a set of 235/75/15 tires with a lot of tread let if interested, too. i'm in southern PA
