Just how rare is my 1983 Ford Ranger with 4 speed, 2.3l 4 cylinder and 4 wheel drive?
I have done some internet searching for these and found none.

How can I find out how many were made and how many are still on the road.
Tom

Probably not very many left around, everyone thinks they need a big V8 so many have been scrapped. Once in a while I'll see one on Craigslist but they're usually well used and not worth what the seller is asking.

As for how many are out there, I'm not sure how you would find that information, as for how many were made I'd think a Google Search would turn something up, but maybe nobody cared back then so no information was ever really known LOL.

Well parts specific to an 83 would be rare just by age, so yes.

The 4-cyl 4x4 was not a common combo either, so now more rare.

You can get a Marti report that will give you the 1 of XXXXX ranking of you unique your truck is as built.

1qaz got one for his '88

As far as on the road... I don't think there is a way. 83's were not that common, almost seems like they might have been a midyear introduction or a short production year.

I wouldn't call it "rare" but it is a scarce truck. I have a marti report for my old '92 2.3 4x4 which claimed it as only 1 of 2431 built with the 2.3/m5od in a regular cab 4wd chassis (R11A in the vin) which was how all 2.3 4x4s were built that year. That truck was an odd ball the way it was spec'd out new...

My farm truck (RIP :'( ) was an 83 2.3L 4x4 with PS, PB, A/C, and dual gas tanks. It also had a black interior, which I'm told is rare.

I still have it's TK4 manual transmission and 1350 manual transfer case. The case is going in my BII, as is the dash and steering wheel.

I have the 91 version 2.3 standard trans 4X4 single cab, did you happen to get that report as well I see you have one.

I have not gotten around to buying one for my '91 2.3 4x4 as it is just a base model truck that didn't have any odd ball features about it. My '92 was an XLT long bed with the optional 19.5 gallon gas tank, manual transfer case & hubs, and an odd two tone mocha paint schema that was only found on 170 rangers that year. @ $50 a pop, buying two was more then enough for me at the time (got one for my '88 GT Ranger also).
