I have decided to get some mickey thompson A/T Baja's on Mickey thompson classic II wheels. my question is, should i get a 10" width or an 8" width for my 2000 ford ranger.

what size tires?
8" wheels are a good middle of the road width.

Rim width depends on how wide your tire is going to be. With a 12.5 width tire, a 10 inch rim works well. Anything narrower and an 8 inch rim will work fine.

If you are strictly going to be on the road a 10" wheel will be best on a 12.50 wide tire. If you are going to do both, then a 8" wheel will be your best bet with a 12.50 wide tire.

You can't run anything less than a 9.50 wide tire on a 8" wheel without problems. Most tire manufactures recommend their 10.50 wide tires to be on the smallest of 8" wide wheel.

one question,
why the Show Off forum?

I dissagree, 12.50s should be on 8" wide wheels, maybe 13.50s too, anything after that go with 10" wheels, 10.50s I'd rather have on 7" wheels, many peaople run 12.50s on 7" rims as well. I like going with the narrowest rim possible, at least in my aplication, it holds a better bead when aired down.

Bingo.

For a truck that sees the trail and has the tires aired down into the single digit areas, 8's will be your best bet.

I never saw any adverse effects from running my old 35x12.50 cooper STT's on the road on an 8" rim, nor have I seen any from running my 36x12.50 SX's on my 8's.
